Top 10 things to do with the whole family

Apr 11, 2024

We are a family so we know the challenges and beauty of it. Also that it can impact the choice you make about going to a certain place or not. Here we share with you our favorite things to do on the island of Curacao as a family. We did not rank it so the order is totally random and all things are worth experiencing if you ask us!

Hofi Cas Cora - The Farm, The Eatery, The Marketplace.

A farm in the middle of the island. When you arrive at Hofi Cas Cora you immediately forget that you are in the ‘city’. It has a certain energy and vibe going on from the South of France with a beautiful terrace overlooking their farm fields. You get a serene experience that we can’t really explain in words. The food is farm to table and they have awesome fresh juices.

The fun thing is that they have donkey’s, pigs, goats, chickens and what not. The kids love it! There are days when you can pick fruits and vegetables and during the week their Marketplace is open with lovely food and sustainable products plus fresh picks from the farm. Femi and Josh are doing an amazing job with the whole operation and are also hosting different events throughout the year. Check the calendar for the events.

Blue Bay Beach - a day at a white sanded beach and a clear blue sea

When you are looking for a beautiful beach that has easy access to the water without lots of coral or stones, you are at the right place at Blue Bay Beach. They have a restaurant the Coast, Bras Boer and a Blend Beach bar. So there are some different options. When you stay at Blue Bay it is free to enter the beach, if you are not it will cost you FL 15,- which is about EUR 8,- per person and that includes a beachbed.

The atmosphere is nice and you can easily order from the beach bar menu via a QR code. Vegan is still not much available, but they are working on it.

Doggy Beach - a day at a hidden gem

Doggy beach, the name says it already, people walk their dogs there. That may sound a bit gross, but believe us, it is not. Most people keep it clean and when you just walk around the corner there is this beautiful hidden spot with small pools so it’s nice with small children to be in the sea but not really in the sea. You can get there from van der Tweel (the one near papagayo beach), just drive past Papagayo and stay left, park at the end and there you can see an entrance of a hike. Just next to the gated area from the hotels. Walk your way down, go right and walk over the coral stones next to the sea, walk all the way to the end of the beach and then turn right, welcome to a truly beautiful Gem!

Take a cooling bag with some great bites and enough water and drinks. Some towels and maybe a parasol to create shade. Oh and of course don’t forget your swimming, and if you like, snorkeling gear.

Sambil - indoor fun

You might not believe it, but it does rain sometimes on Curacao. Not that that is a bad thing, only when you want to do something with the family it might limit your options. We don’t know about your kids, but ours had quite some energy and we love to bring him to the indoor play park at Sambil. The parents can join or sit back and relax or stroll around the mall. There is also a Cinema in Sambil and a foodcourt with a playground. So just roam around and see what you and your family like.

Kokomo Beach - Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama

We’ll get there fast and then we take it slow! This beach has fresh juices, nice lunch, swings in the sea, a small pier and an amazing view. A bit more coral and stones but you can surely swim with your family and build sandcastles.

Christoffel Park

If you like hiking as much as we do, you are going to love the Christoffel Mountain hike. It is a bit challenging but so worth it of a hike. When you reach the top all will be well again ;) If you are not much of a hiker but do like to watch at beautiful viewpoints you can just drive through the park by car and stop at all the viewpoints. There are some hikes at the viewpoints and also a cave but it’s up to you which ones you do.

You can find a whole article on Christoffel Park here.

Ostrich Farm

Are you into big animals? Then the Ostrich Farm is for you. A once in a lifetime experience! The Curacao Ostrich Farm is located in a fabulous landscape on the road to Groot St. Joris in Santa Catharina and is one of the largest farms outside Africa. You can look around the farm. We have more than 600 birds, like the one you see in the picture. The farm is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kabouterbos

Do you feel like going for a stroll with the little ones? Then Kabouterbos is an awesome place to go to.

Kabouterbos is a green area in the middle of the Jongbloed and Mahaai residential areas. The main entrance is along the Jongbloedweg, where you will be welcomed by gnomes. The forest is 24 hours a day open and has sanitary facilities, several picnic areas and a playground. So bring your cooling bag filled with delicious goodies or stop at Hofi Cas Cora for some food & drinks before entering, they are located around the corner.

The area is over 30 acres and is a popular recreation area for children in the area, as well as the perfect place for family gatherings, children's parties, scavenger hunts, mountain biking, horseback riding, as a hiking area and much more. The paths in Kabouterbos are indicated by means of the recognizable yellow stones of Unique Curacao.

PLAYGROUND

Various playground equipment can be found in the playground. There are swings, tire swings and a seesaw for hours of fun. There are also tree trunks and car tires to jump, walk or run over. The forest is ideal for playing games such as hide and seek.

GNOMES - Kabouters

The name says it all: Kabouterbos, which means; Gnomes forest. They are hidden in the trees, can you spot them all?

The Space

Are you in for an awesome yoga class or a healing massage? The Space is your One Stop Shop For Wellness. Where You Will Find Your Integrative Doctor, Bodywork Therapist And Yoga Teacher. All Under One Roof Supporting You On Your Personal Transformative Healing Journey.

They have a location in Otrobanda and a location in Mahaai, check their class schedule to book a class or wellness treatment.

When you enter The Space, we experience it as if you walk into a whole different space, what an energy. So peaceful, relaxed and active in a way… it’s not really explainable in words only that every time we go there, we have the most delightful experiences.

The location in Mahaai also has The Sane Sister and Nut House on the ground floor where you can get an awesome shake, juice or smoothie bowl plus fresh roasted or raw nuts & seeds.

Fort Beekenburg

Fort Beekenburg was built in 1703 on Curaçao on the Caracas Bay to defend the Spanish Water.

The Caracas Bay with the Spanish Water behind was one of the few suitable places to go ashore from the sea. It was therefore decided to build a fortress to make it impossible for enemies to reach Willemstad.

The fort is named after Nicolaas van Beek, who was governor between 1701 and 1704 and coordinated the defense of the city. During the 18th century, the fortress was able to withstand several attacks by French and English troops.

You can walk around the fort and also enter the fort. It has a beautiful view and still has some old canons. You can park your car at the entrance, which is just a stairway, so even if you don’t like a hike it’s only a few minutes. Though with some steps, also to go up on the fort.
